Sponsering and Support Association Henri-Goldstein-Haus

Objective

The Henri-Goldstein-Haus e.V. association, founded in November 2013, has set itself the goal of preserving the building, which was built in 1936 and still largely exists in its original state. It is to be converted into a memorial to commemorate forced labour in peat extraction by prisoners of war in both world wars. The focus will be on the Nazi era, but also on the time when prisoners from prisons were used to extract peat in peacetime.

The building was named "Henri-Goldstein-Haus" after one of the Jewish prisoners of war. The Belgian Henri-Goldstein had turned directly to the city of Quickborn in 1994 and 2000 for recognition as a forced labourer. This triggered research into the events in Himmelmoor during the Second World War.

All findings so far, accumulated by a five-member working group, have been published in 2005 in a documentation (see German text)
