Outdoor Area
Mesh Fence and Barbed Wire
The area around the Henri-Goldstein-Haus was secured against the escape of prisoners of war in the Second World War with a high chain-link fence and barbed wire. A part of this fence still exists between the building and the property of the neighbouring prisoners‘ house. The course of the fence in front of the house, evidenced by photos, is to be partly rebuilt and marked on the ground.
Foundations of Wooden Barracks
Behind the Henri-Goldstein-Haus foundations of wooden barracks still exist. These will be uncovered and their age determined. It is questionable whether they still date from the time of the First World War or whether the barracks, the last of which were demolished at the beginning of the 1980, were erected in the Second World War. This work is to be carried out by the Archaelogical State Office of Schleswig-Holstein. After uncovering the foundations an access to them will be created.
Information Boards
In a further step information boards will be placed in the area between Henri Goldstein-Haus and the neighbouring prisoners‘ house. These will inform visitors in brief about the history and events in this place and are particularly important when the memorial is closed.
